Gaming Attitudes

July 28, 2010 Leave a comment

I’ve published a similar post before, but I decided to rewrite it since it was quite outdated, and could use a brush up on both English and presentation.  This post is about Gaming Attitudes we commonly meet while playing multiplayer (online) games.

I encounter many of these types quite often, less so since I joined LotRO, whose community is smaller and more mature, but I still occasionally encounter a black sheep.  The black sheep become “the sheep” in WoW, and the more mature attitudes are like golden nuggets, which apparently are extremely hard to stumble upon.

LotRO: Leveling with friends

July 23, 2010 Leave a comment

MMOs are, from my perspective, games you should experience together with other people, preferably friends you’ve known for some time.  It’s what I’m doing myself, and it sure as hell is fun.  This post relevance is not much of a guide on how to level while grouped, but rather a recollection of what I’ve experienced so far while leveling together with mates as opposed to leveling solo.

It all comes down to fun, and boredom.  You’ll experience both in higher dosage.  Leveling together will most definitely be more interesting than doing the content on your own.  You’ll often chatting up while doing common quests which may not be too interesting which makes the time spent playing definitely more interesting.  Hard, annoying, time-consuming quests can easily turn into easy, rewarding, efficient quests which you’ll enjoy going through.

In the last post, LotRO:  The Path of the Hunter [Getting Ready to Play] we went over game setup to prepare ourselves for the journey.  It’s time to take a look on how to play the hunter.  This guide is meant for leveling and low level instances.  It’s split in two parts:

  1. Solo Play
  2. Group Play

And covers various areas of the class.  I will not go in any gearing or traiting detail in this section since they’ll be getting their own individual articles, but I will cover the general idea behind traiting and gearing. Read more…

Welcome back to the part of “The Path of the Hunter".  If you haven’t read it yet I recommend you start out on it.  Follow the following link for the first part of the guide: LotRO:  The Path of the Hunter [Introduction].  So far I’ve covered the basics and a quick look over the hunter class.  In this article we’ll be looking at 3 steps I always go through whenever I start a new game, as well as a new class when it comes to MMOs.

The topics covered are the following:
  1. Interface
  2. Game Performance
  3. Key-binding

LotRO: The Path of the Hunter [Introduction]

“The Hunter is the class of choice for players who enjoy striking a target at range. Clever by nature, the Hunter is known to lure his targets into traps to hinder them, giving him time to use his bow to deadly effect. A Hunter’s knowledge of nature also provides skills that help him and his fellows survive in the wild. A Hunter’s combat style depends on the ability to injure a foe while staying out of harm’s way"

spunlightThe Hunter’s strengths consist primarily around single target nuking, ranged damage, with "support" melee abilities intended for finishing off weakened mobs or crippling their movement to gain ranged distance (or until the tank takes the mob back on him/her).

A hunter is equipped with a few useful Crowd Control abilities (Snares, Roots, Fears) which may turn an impossible fight into an easy walk in the park or to turn the tide when things start looking dire.  Communication is recommended when you’re engaging in Crowd Control abilities to avoid friends breaking the CC.

Starting Lord of the Rings Online

It’s been months now since our guild downed The Lich King on WoW.  And I was fairly disappointed in it myself seeing we downed him with troubles while out geared the encounter (normal mode) with a 15% buff hugging us.  Still, I joined to whoop the lich kings ass and somehow it happened.  I left WoW, and sadly the guild as well because of a highly irritable officer so what lies ahead for me once Cataclysm hits, I personally have no clue.

Regardless, for the time being – I shifted my watch on to Lord of the Rings Online.  A game I played back in 2009 Summer, and greatly enjoyed.  Sadly didn’t give it the attention it deserved, and didn’t quite make it past classic Shadows of Angmar.
